Special Education Tutoring Jobs For Special Education Professionals
Special Education Tutoring Jobs For Special Education ProfessionalsOne of the biggest concerns when it comes to special education students is how they will fit in with other children at school and what new responsibilities they will have. Some students do not fit in well with other students, especially if they are learning other disabilities that may be more difficult to handle. Special needs children need to be handled as carefully as their peers but often times they are not treated as effectively and this can make them much more difficult to deal with.Luckily there are many special ed tutoring jobs available. There are many kids in different settings with a variety of learning disabilities that need to be served and their struggles in school need to be recognized by qualified special education professionals. The more that people realize the challenges these students face the better their lives will be.Not all special ed jobs are necessarily going to be in teaching. There are also t utoring jobs that will require working with students who have to use special products such as a hearing aid or those who must wear corrective devices. These people must be aware of the various products that are used in the classroom so they know which ones will work with the disability. It is necessary for a special ed student to understand the way the product works before the use of the product begins.Another type of job for people with special needs that is important for these students is learning how to read and write. Teaching children to read and write and then helping them to adapt to different environments is important for them. It is not just about memorizing information but rather understanding how the information can be made into a useful experience for the child.Kids that are developing hearing problems can be extremely frustrating for those teachers that are trying to teach them. Teachers must be aware of the different equipment that they will need to teach their special needs students so they can get the most out of the class. Teachers should also be prepared to work with the assistance of hearing aids and extra programs that can be used to help those kids understand their environment better.Working with children who are beginning to develop a learning disability is another way that special education educators can make the most of their time with their students. This is important because they need to know the importance of being patient and building that patience so that the child can see success through the learning disability. Parents must realize that learning is not always easy and that it is something that cannot be forced upon a child.Special ed tutoring jobs are plentiful. There are many students that will require the services of these professionals and if you are looking for one of these jobs, there are places that you can turn to find a mentor. Your local community colleges offer tutoring classes and there are even some centers that will pay you to tutor these children.Parents need to realize that they need to be prepared for the challenges that their students will face when they enter the public schools. Teachers should work with special needs students and have knowledge of the resources that are available to help these students succeed. There are many opportunities available for people who are specialized in special education jobs.

What is it Like to Attend the United States Naval Academy
What is it Like to Attend the United States Naval Academy Cole is an Atlanta-based tutor specializing in math tutoring, science tutoring, and a number of other subjects. He earned his bachelors degree in aerospace engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 2015. See what he had to say about his experience there below: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Cole: Navigating the United States Naval Academys campusor better known as Yardis easy due to the relatively small size of the campus. The Naval Academy is considered a military installation, so gates surround the property; however, the campus is only a short walk from the heart of downtown Annapolis, Maryland. Due to the small size of the campus, academic buildings are within a ten minute walk from the dormitory, which makes cars and bikes unnecessary for students. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Cole: The Naval Academy is fairly unique in that professors are hired to teach as opposed to completing research. This means that the emphasis remains on the students, which is reflected by their dedication to aid students success. At about a 20:1 student-teacher ratio, class sizes are very small in comparison to normal colleges. In addition to the class sizes, teachers are flexible with their schedules and will work with students to actively correct any deficiencies. These two qualities enhance the undergraduate learning experience. As is similar with many colleges, the role of academic adviser is performed by teachers. Another great quality about the academics is the fact that no teaching assistants are hired. Furthermore, a student can communicate directly with a teacher about any problems. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Cole: The academic and military aspects of the Academy are very different. Students will be expected to effectively juggle military and academic responsibilities. That being said, dorm life is vastly different than many civilian colleges. All students must reside in the main dormitory named Bancroft Hall. The layout of the dorms is probably fairly similar to civilian dormitories; however, students are required to reside in Bancroft the entire four years. Because the school is government-funded, students will be expected to attend breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the main dining hall. Students will also be required to attend other military obligations that occur sporadically throughout the week. While this all may seem strict, there are still plenty of opportunities for students to socialize; many clubs meet during the evening. Unfortunately, students are not allowed to leave the campus during the week, so socialization is confined within the gated area (it is still relatively large). Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Cole: While STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors are the most supported at the Academy, many pursue Humanities degrees. Prospective students should keep in mind that everyone graduating from the Academy will fulfill the requirements for a Bachelors of Science; furthermore, regardless of your declared major, a student will be required to take several STEM related courses. These include: calculus, physics, engineering, and computer science. I personally studied Aerospace Engineering (AE) because I wanted to become an engineer and thought that AE was a unique challenge. I would say that, overall, the STEM programs are exemplary compared to other colleges. From the caliber of the teaching staff to the available technology, I was impressed by my academic experience. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Cole: The Academy is structured hierarchically. This means that freshmen are considered the most subordinate in comparison to the rest of the classes. This can be daunting for students who were not aware of this before attending the school. Freshman yearor better known as plebe yearis especially difficult because ritualistic tasks create an environment of stress. Plebe year is designed to indoctrinate students with a sense of military understanding and respect. Let me be clear: prospective students should do research before applying to understand if this school is a good fit. For some this is not the best fit, but for others, the Naval Academy will open some incredible doors. That being said, plebes will generally form great bonds with roommates and teammates. Unfortunately, Greek life is not allowed at the Academy. Regardless, students will form lasting bonds going through this program. How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services? Cole: Students that attend the Naval Academy will receive a free four-year education in return for five years of obligatory service. Students will commission as Naval or Marine Corps officers upon graduation and can be assigned to a variety of communities. Within the Navy, these can include Surface Warfare, Submarines, Aviation, SEALs, or EOD. For those that join the Marine Corps, they will receive assignments upon successful completion of follow-on training. One of the best advantages of attending the Naval Academy is the opportunities that come after leaving the service. With professional leadership and technical experience, many employers prefer Naval Academy graduates over other candidates. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Cole: Many students will study in the library or academic buildings. The library provides a relaxing atmosphere and features a coffee bar for late-night studying. Other academic buildings are also open at night if the library becomes too crowded. Describe the surrounding town. Cole: The Naval Academy campus sits adjacent to downtown Annapolis, which is a city that is rich in history. From the Academy, the Chesapeake Bay and other maritime activities can be observed and enjoyed. Not only is Annapolis a quaint, yet excitable town, it is conveniently located halfway between Baltimore and Washington D.C. Downtown D.C. can be easily reached without a car if a student wants to go on a day trip. Prospective students should understand that venturing outside the gates is only authorized during the weekend, and that this policy is strictly enforced. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Cole: The student body is comparably small to many civilian universities. With only about 4,500 students enrolled, prospective students can expect to be in classes with a 20: 1 student-teacher ratio. As aforementioned, this small classroom size allows a student to interact directly with the teacher when a concept is misunderstood. In addition to the small classroom size, my experience has shown that teachers are generally flexible with their schedules. These are some great perks when considering academic performance. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Cole: One of my most memorable experiences occurred throughout my Senior Design class. For our Capstone (term) project, we built a satellite that would communicate with us in space. Myself and several other colleagues built the housing structure, integrated the radio transponder unit, and organized the chip boards within the small container. It was really interesting to view the final project and realize that our small device would not only be in space, but that it would be communicating with us on Earth! What is it Like to Attend Scripps College
What is it Like to Attend Scripps College Hannah is a current junior at Scripps College. She is majoring in human biology, and specializes in elementary math tutoring, biology tutoring, and a number of other subjects. Below, she shares her experience at Scripps College: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Hannah: Scripps College is in a suburban area, but close enough to access all of the resources in Los Angeles. Its really easy to bring a car, otherwise you can walk or Uber downtown to Claremont Village. If youre looking to go into LA, which is about 45 minutes away, there are public transportation options. Additionally, I always feel extremely safe on campus. Scripps is part of a five-college consortium, so you can walk from Scripps to Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont McKenna College, or Pitzer College in just a couple of minutes. Many people bike to class, too, and bikes are available to both rent and purchase. I definitely feel very safe on campus. If I need to get from one campus to another late at night, Campus Safety will pick me up and take me home if I feel unsafe. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Hannah:Professors are very accessible. One of the things I love about Scripps is the small class sizes, which make it really easy to meet with and get to know professors. Professors offer weekly office hours and many are happy to arrange one-on-one meetings. There are TAs for some classes, but they are often just an additional resource. Most professors are very personal and love to get to know all of their students. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Hannah:Scripps dorms are incredible. They are beautiful, homey, and you end up making so many friends with the people in your hall. As a member of the 5Cs, Scripps students can choose to dine at any of the seven dining halls located on the campuses. The food is excellent, and they put a lot of thought into making sure there are plenty of options for people with allergies or other dietary preferences or restrictions. Its super easy to make friends here as well. Scripps women are very friendly, and there are a lot of opportunities to meet people from the other schools through classes, student organizations, clubs, and sports. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Hannah:Common majors include biology, psychology, English, and ethnic studies. I study human biology. I think Scripps does a great job in promoting a large breadth of knowledge not only in ones desired area of study, but also in ones other areas of interest. In fact, its possible to follow a pre-med track (which I intend to do) with almost any major. The science department at Scripps is shared with Pitzer and Claremont McKenna Colleges, and most labs and lectures occur through the Keck Science Department. Since you dont have to compete with a large number of graduate students like you would at a big university, its really easy to find research opportunities by getting to know your science professors and lab instructors. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Hannah:Its extremely easy to meet people and make friends as a first year. Its also very easy to meet people at the other four campuses since we all share sports teams, many classes, clubs, and organizations. Greek life does not play a significant role in the campus social life. There are a couple of fraternities, but definitely not in the traditional sense. How helpful are the Career Centerand other student support services? Hannah:I just finished my first year, so I havent turned to the Career Center for any help yet, but from what Ive heard they are extremely helpful to students. The ladies at the Career Center help look at your resume, go over job applications, and are overall very supportive. Scripps has a pretty good reputation as a college, so I imagine that reputable companies recruit on campus. However, I have no personal experience, as I havent sought a job on campus yet. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Hannah:The library is pretty packed during finals week, but during the rest of the year its pretty easy to find a table or even a private room to study. The Scripps campus is also very spacious and there are great study spots like the Motley, the student-run coffee shop where I love doing homework during the week. Describe the surrounding town. Hannah:Campus always has a lot of fun activities, but if you want to branch out, Claremont Village is only about a 10-minute walk away from campus. Its a 45-minute drive to LA, which allows for fun weekend adventures in the city. It also allows for great internship, research, and summer job opportunities. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Hannah:I love the small class sizes. There are some lecture classes with over 60 students, but those often also have smaller lab sections or discussion sections during which you can really get to know your professor. Most of my discussion classes and labs are capped around 17 people. We can meet with professors during office hours or one-on-one, and dont have to rely just on TAs for help. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Hannah:Last semester I had an incredible calculus teacher. When I had trouble understanding the material, I would arrange to meet with her in her office. I always felt welcome and comfortable asking questions and seeking help. Because it was a really challenging class, I dont think I would have done as well as I did if it werent for the outside help my teacher was happy to provide. Check out Hannahs tutoring profile. Regardless of your reason for wanting to know, you can rely on the exam boards publishing their timetables with good notice.Provisional timetables, including those for English Language and English Literature, will usually be given to your establishment quite a way before the exam period. Your teacher will no doubt pass on this information, along with any other important dates relating to the exams, during class as you get close to revision stage so that you can start making the necessary arrangements.Find exam timetables for English Literature and Langauge online (Photo credit: Xin Li 88 vi a Visualhunt.com)Final exam timetables will then be confirmed and published, highlighting any major amendments, via the exam boardsâ websites and subsequently communicated to your head of department.Students may also consult the exam board themselves for assessment-related queries, including exam duration and regulations for candidates. Note that being late for the start could result in you not being allowed to sit the exam at all, and thus cause you to fail that section of the assessment.Flash cards and notes are just two study strategies. Would you like to learn more of them? What Do English A Level Grades Mean? Most of you will be aware that an A* is the top grade you can achieve in most exams. But what some might not truly understand is how A Level results differ from GCSEs. At this higher level, anything above an âEâ grade is classed as a pass, as opposed to the cut-off being at grade âCâ like you might be used to. The âA*â at A Level is also a relatively new thing, with âAâ previously being the highest grade you could achieve. With such a wide spectrum of grades offering you a pass rate, what do A Level grades really mean to you, your university choices and your prospective employers? Well, when it comes to applying for university or further education, your A Level grades will be translated into UCAS points. By this, we mean that your grades are converted into their equivalent of UCAS points (the UCAS table can be found online).Since universities accept students from a range of different courses, including A Levels, the Int ernational Baccalaureate and other international qualifications (all of which are marked differently), they use this universal points system to calculate studentsâ suitability for their course. To find out the minimum grade you need for your desired course and how many UCAS points you require to be considered, you can consult the bodyâs website which offers more information for prospective students. You could also review past exam papers to find ideas for high point yield answers! Get help from an English tutor London or anywhere else in the UK has never been easier thanks to Superprof. How Important Is The AS Level Result? At one time, the grades accumulated during the course of your AS Level (i.e. your first year of study) would contribute to your final A Level grade. Though some may argue that they surely havenât learnt enough in the first year for this assessment to count, others would agree that since there are less distractions and reasons to be stressed it would be a good i dea as their marks could be much better.Since the A Level reform, however, officials decided that exams are the best way to determine a studentâs ability in a subject and therefore only take into account your final yearâs assessments, making the first seem like a practice run. The value of a taster year is that you can get to grips with your subject matter and the exam requirements before heading into your final year. Moreover, students should bear in mind that universities will still see their AS grades, good or bad, and those results will also have been used by their tutors to predict their final grade (which, as you know, is what universities base their offers on).Universities will take into account your predicted A Level grades. Photo credit: Piedmont Virginia Community College via Visualhunt.comWith many mature professionals returning to school to re-sit their GCSE and A Level exams, it goes to show the effect these exams have on your life.Although it can feel like you are s till too young to take such life-changing steps, the reality is that your A Levels mark a very important stage in your life.Doing well can spur you onto even greater success, while failing to achieve what you set out to can leave you feeling inadequate and shake your confidence. If you are a believer in fate and âwhat will be, will beâ, be reminded that a reasonable percentage of your grade is reliant on the skills you display during the course of the study programme and the effort you put in on the day of your exam.Would you like to learn more about career opportunities for English language graduates? Ace your A-levels with a private English tutor. How Is English A Level Marked? As we now know, to pass your A Level you will need to achieve a grade in the region of âA*â - âEâ (an âUnclassifiedâ or âUâ grade unfortunately means that you have failed the course) yet a good grade is probably considered by many as a 'B'+. But how are these grades worked out to reveal yo ur final qualification? Do certain modules count for more than others in the overall grading? These are questions that you should be asking your teacher or tutor. In the unlikely event that they cannot help with your A Level assessment queries, you should consult your exam board to find out more. The majority of exams follow a Uniform Mark Scale (UMS), which defines grade boundaries for A Level subjects. An average UMS mark of 90% across all A2 modules results in an âA*â. Meanwhile, 80%+ is an âAâ, 70-79% is a âBâ, 60-69% is a âCâ, 50-59% awards a âDâ grade and, finally, 40-49% is the equivalent of an âEâ. Anything below 40% is deemed off the pass scale and will result in course failure. The Benefits Of Understanding Grading For Your CourseAs you can see, it is vital that you achieve good grades in all modules to avoid a disappointing grade. Those who excel in certain areas but fall back in others might find that their weaknesses bring their overall grade down, so tailoring your revision to you personally is vital. The importance of knowing your mark scheme can therefore not be reiterated enough. If you, a student who has paid particular attention to mark schemes and grade brackets, are put up against a student who has no idea what they need to do to achieve a âBâ, you will come out on top. The reason behind this is that you will be far more attentive to the details which could make the difference between coming below or above a boundary, in turn making you more confident in your approach to the exam.Intricate planning and research are great traits and will prepare you for further exam-taking, like prepping for a university dissertation or degree-related assessment.Do you need a skype English teacher? Overcoming a Poor Grade
Overcoming a Poor Grade At some point or another, every student brings home a poor grade on an assignment or a test, which can be a real blow to the self-esteem. It is understandably difficult to see your student struggling and feeling badly about school, but here are several things you can do to help your child overcome a bad grade or dip in school performance: Be supportive, not angry. Let your child know that youre there for support and you want to help him or herwhether this is a small or growing problem. When a bad grade comes home, resist the initial urge to yell or punish him or her. Its understandable that you may feel concerned or angry, but your child probably feels as bad as you do about his or her school struggles. First, have an open, non-judgmental conversation with your child about what happened. Determine whether youre dealing with a one-time problem or a deeper issue. Has your child had problems with this particular subject or skill in the past, or is this a new issue? Talk with your child about what went wrong on the assignment or test. Does he or she understand what mistakes were made and how to correct them? Look for signs elsewhere. Occasional bad grades happen to all students. Consistently low grades and test scores, however, are worth investigating further. How is your child during study and homework sessions? Does he or she take far more time than seems reasonable to complete work? Is his or her work sloppy or disorganized? Has your child regressed in a certain subject since the prior year? Do tests seem to make your child anxious? Remind your child that failure is a part of life. It may be hard for your child to understand without the perspective that you have, but let him or her know that making mistakes is how we learn. Share a story of a time when you or a favorite aunt or uncle struggled in school. Let him or her know that you do not expect perfection, and that this is an opportunity to strive for improvement. Focus on the future. Try not to dwell too much on a poor grade or test score. Instead, figure out the best way for your child to overcome any difficulties in order to earn a better grade next time. Be sure to involve your child when developing that plan of action. Teach him or her to set goals, lay out steps to achieve those goals, and work with you and his or her teacher to tackle problems as they arise. Ideally, you should take these steps before your childs school difficulties spiral into big problems. However, it is never too late to help your child turn things around and repeal any serious damage to his or her confidence and academic record. Huntington Learning Center works with students who have been struggling for a few months, students who have been struggling for years, and everyone in between.
